FINAL GOODBYE FROM
GovsFootball ONline
It's the end of an era for
Pierre Governors football. The Govs won two games in the three years before Chad Gusso
took over the head coaching job. Gusso then led them to a 5-5 year, including a playoff
win. Gusso engineered the Govs to their third ever 2nd-place finish in the ESD, led them
to the quarterfinals of the playoffs three times, and his 2000 squad appeared in the
semifinals for the first time since 1988. Gusso's 1998 squad produced current San Jose
State University quartberack Scott Rislov, and the tandem of Rislov to Ahlers shattered
the Governor record book.
Well Gusso has resigned from the Governor coaching squad, doing so the Monday after
the Govs 15-12 playoff loss at Huron. Gusso was the second most successful coach in
Governor football history. Gusso says he had nothing against anyone in the program, and if
it was just about coaching football he'd remain the No. 1 man in the program. He said its
the other responsibilites that he feels he just can't maintain to the level that the
players deserve, at least not now. Gusso will still coach track and remain a teacher at
T.F. Riggs.
It's also an end of an era for this website, as GovsFootball ONline's three-year
run ends now. It is with thanks from Coach Gusso that this site is even up. I can honestly
say that there is not an easier head coach to work with than Gusso, who always was willing
to take time to help with whatever I needed for this site. He will be missed in the
program.
I want to thank all the managers and trainers from the past three years, namely
this year: Kacie Schneider, Nicole Ormesher, Rachel McGruder, Sarah Linn and Steph
Mutschler. I'm not the easiest to deal with sometimes, and for their attitudes towards me
always being positive, I thank them for that.
I want to thank the rest of the coaching staff: Greg Stluka, Jeff Dykstra, Todd
Palmer and Rob Coverdale. Their help with information for this site was much appreciated.
I especially want to thank the players over the past three years. Having the
opportunity to spend almost every fall day over these three seasons with them, they never
excluded me and always helped when I needed it. Thank you to them for everything.
Thank you to all of the families and friends of the players for viewing the site,
to those of the media that have viewed it as well.
Thanks to Duke DesLauriers and Rod Fisher for their help with getting the word out.
Thanks to Parker Knox for his constant help with information for the ESD site and
for helping publicize the website. There is not a better individual I've ever had the
privilage to meet.
Lastly, I want to thank Kris Stephens Kornbaum, the former sports director at KCCR.
It is Kris who taught me how to do what I do, and it is to him I owe almost everything
I've accomplished.
As for GovsBBall ONline, it is unlikely to remain up and running. I do not feel that doing the site for just the girls is fair, or for just the boys. And being able to keep the site running for six teams (Varsity, JV, Sophomore of both boys and girls) without having direct access to half of them, it would be a difficult task. I have enjoyed working on it, but the time required to do it is just not available for a "volunteer" such as myself.
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER VIEWED THIS SITE. THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO HAVE CONTACTED ME ABOUT IT, ESPECIALLY TO THOSE OF YOU WHO CHECK THIS AS YOUR ONLY WAY TO KEEP UP ON THE TEAM. I'M GLAD I COULD PROVIDE IT FOR YOU. SO IN MY LAST OFFICIAL ACT AS A MEMBER OF THE GOVERNOR FOOTBALL PROGRAM: GOODBYE AND THANK YOU.
