Game Recap
Aberdeen Central sends Governors from the "undefeateds"
BY TYLER MERRIAM

In the 2000 playoffs, Jordan Murphy's pin-point accuracy, and the Govs inability to run the ball cost them a shot at the state title. Friday night, it cost them a 35-7 loss at Clark Swisher Field in Aberdeen Central.

The Golden Eagles started with the ball, and quickly scored, as Jordan Murphy threw deep into the endzone, and Charlie Johnston battled Brandon Coyle for the ball. Johnston caught the ball, falling out of bounds past the endzone due to contact from Coyle. The referee correctly judged that he would have come down inbounds, and the Govs were in a 7-0 hole.

Pierre retailiated, putting together a 70-yard drive, with Andy Hanson finding Pat Anderson for a 30-yard touchdown strike and a 7-7 tie. That would be the end of almost all positive for the Governors.

Craig Schochenmaier's first punt of the year went off the end of his foot, going out of bounds after only 3 yards. Aberdeen Central capitalized, and Tony Schwan ran in from three yards out, giving Aberdeen Central a 14-7 lead at the end of a period.

Murphy was quickly back to the air, as he and Cody Axlund met on a beautiful timing pattern just past the outstretched hands of corner Tyler Prue for an 18-yard touchdown. Later on in the quarter, Murphy hit Schwan from 9 yards out, and the Govs trailed 28-7 in the half.

By the time the second half began, the game was over for all intensive purposes, as the Governors rushing game continued to struggle, and by now the Golden Eagles had directed their focus at Andy Hanson, sacking him six times and covering all passing lanes he might have had.

Pierre was at a speed disadvantage, and everyone knew it, but many believed Pierre would be able to outman the Eagles, something that didn't happen. The Eagles controlled the game from the outset, and again have sent the Governors home losers.

Next up for Pierre is 2-0 Yankton, as the Bucks bring in maybe the team with the best combination of speed and strength. Yankton will be at Phil Trautner Stadium at Hollister Field Friday night, game time is 7:30 p.m.
