Govsend season in Aberdeen...again

Andy Hanson, Erik Gilbertson, Austin Schneider, Michael Bumann, Brandon Coyle and Brandon Deffenbaugh had a bitter pill to swallow Thursday night - each of their three years of varsity football has ended courtesy of Mike Flakus' squad.
The Golden Eagles didn't come out ready to play, with Pierre scoring 4:06 into the game, a nine play, 76-yard drive capped by a Brandon Deffenbaugh touchdown run. Then Aberdeen Central got inside the Gov 20-yard line on a hookup from Jordan Murphy to Charlie Johnston, but then they were turned the ball over on downs.
Pierre drove the field, but couldn't convert on a field goal, and the teams exchanged punts, with Pierre getting the ball at their own 35-yard line with about two minutes left.
It appeared the Govs would run out the clock, until Hanson and Deffenbaugh couldn't convert a handoff, with the Golden Eagles recovering. Johnston made a touchdown catch with just 27 seconds left, tying the ball game.
Central started the third with two scores on three possessions, a 20-7 lead. Pierre's offense stalled, but their defense was keeping them in the game.
The Govs finally got going early in the fourth, and although they needed a couple of key Golden Eagle penalties, Hanson found Schneider inside the Eagle one, where Hanson then dove it in to get within six with just five minutes left.
Pierre onside kicked, with the Golden Eagles recovering. However, the defense forced a three-and-out, and Pierre would get the ball.
Tyler Prue, who had a masterful game, along with Schneider and Drew Palmer got Pierre into Central territory. With the game on the line, fourth-and-one, with just a minute left, Prue was stopped a foot short of a first down, wrapping up the game and the season for Pierre.
